US President Donald Trump said he might "start liking" Hillary Clinton after she hinted that she would put his name forward for a Nobel Peace Prize if he managed to bring peace between Russia and Ukraine. Trump made the lighthearted remark while speaking with American journalist Bret Baier abroad Air Force One. Baier reminded him of Clinton’s remarks that she would back his Nobel Prize nomination if he could stop the war without giving in to Russian President Vladimir Putin. "That was very nice," Trump said. "I may have to start liking her again."
Hillary Clinton, who lost the 2016 election to Trump, shared her thoughts on the "Raging Moderates" podcast. She said she would nominate Trump for the award if he ended the Ukraine war without forcing the country to surrender any land. Clinton explained that if Trump could face down Putin and protect Ukraine’s territory, she would support his recognition. "My aim is not to allow Putin to win by taking over Ukraine," she added.
Clinton’s statement came as Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska for high-level discussions focused on ending the three-year-long war. Speaking to reporters during his flight, Trump said he wanted a ceasefire "today" and stressed he "won’t be happy" with anything less. He was heading to a historic Cold War-era airbase for what could become a turning point. Trump and Clinton’s rivalry goes back years. In the 2016 race, Clinton called Trump’s supporters a "basket of deplorables" and claimed he was "unfit" for office. She also criticized him for speaking positively about Putin long before Russia invaded Ukraine.
